Weather Risk Management Association

Industry Survey

WRMA has contracted PricewaterhouseCoopers’ National Economic Consulting Group, based in Washington DC, to conduct an annual survey of our members regarding weather data.

The importance of good data is well-recognized by everyone in the weather risk management community. Data on the weather market has become as important as good temperature data. In an effort to compile data for benchmarking purposes, this survey, developed by WRMA’s Board of Directors, determines the size of the market, the size of trades and the types of trades (swaps, precipitation, HDD, etc.), notional values and the regions where trades are done. The data is collected by season starting with Fall 1997, Winter 1998 and so forth. All data is collected confidentially and totally aggregated.
